Dear Parents,
What an exciting week for the 5th grade—it was wonderful to see your children practicing their projects this week and to experience the fruit of their hard labor these past 3 months. I look forward to seeing them present next week!
It was also a memorable day for the 5th grade math masters team! We placed 12th out of 29 teams!!! That’s the best we’ve ever done so far in Holy Family Academy history. In addition, Matthew placed 2nd out of 145 in the individual awards!
Coming Up This Week:
--Special Mass for Mary and for the 1st communicants on Monday. Bring flowers for the Mary procession--something simple is great, but no dandelions please!! :)
--Presentations in the afternoons on Monday and Tuesday (see the schedule I sent home)
--Presentations in the mornings on Wednesday and Thursday (again, see the schedule)
--Spelling Test on Thursday
--Spring Fair begins at 6:30 p.m. in Kattar Hall on Thursday. The 5th graders will sing the final piece in the 1st part of the evening and then quickly move upstairs to rooms 301 and 302 so they can meet, greet, and mingle as Historical Figures during the 2nd part of the fair.
--No school for students on Friday!
Stay dry this weekend,
Mrs. Sandberg

Fifth Grade News April 25th
Friday, April 25, 2008, 05:15 PM
Dear Parents,
Our field trip to the Bakken was a thrill! In addition to the joy of watching your children explore the museum, I received several compliments from the museum staff on the attentive and respectful behavior of our HFA kids. That’s a treat as a teacher, but much of the credit goes to you, the parents!
I’m also looking forward to working on the Historical Figure Presentations next week at school. The class will be divided into “practice pods” and they’ll get the chance to rehearse and read their reports to others in the group everyday. Thanks for your help at home with the typing and the display boards.
Coming up this week:
--A typed copy of the report is due on MONDAY. (I will be reading the reports all Monday evening and returning them with last revisions on Tuesday.)
--Presentation times and dates will be sent home in an invitation on MONDAY.
--Poem Memory Test and Religion Quiz on WEDNESDAY.
--Final copy of the typed report is due on THURSDAY.
--Math Masters Team competes on FRIDAY!
--Spelling Test on FRIDAY.
--Virtue Families on FRIDAY.
Have a safe (and hopefully not too cold!) weekend,
Mrs. Sandberg

Dear Parents,
By now I am sure you have heard the news that I am going to stay home next year with my baby! So, your kids will be my last class at HFA for what might be a break of many years…I’m excited about the chance to embrace this opportunity, but the discernment has made me realize just how much I love teaching! Thank you for a wonderful year so far!
Coming Up Next Week:

Fifth Grade News March 15th
Saturday, March 15, 2008, 02:43 PM
Dear Parents,
It was great to meet with so many of you this week during conferences. Thank you for the support of your child’s school life. I feel honored to have such a quality set of parents this year! I couldn’t do my job without you. (I suppose I wouldn’t even HAVE a job without you anyways…)
We have a short week coming up and then our Spring Break. I actually won’t be here on Monday because some last minute Irish fiddle gigs came up for me, so Mrs. Wood will be subbing. But, I have scheduled a great St. Patrick’s Day for your kids here at school despite the absence of their Irish music crazy teacher. (Usually I torture the 5th grade to a full day of listening to traditional Irish music…)
Events coming up this week:
--No spelling lesson or test this week.
--All school stations on Monday following daily Mass. Join us!
--Island of the Blue Dolphin movie on Monday!
--Special Irish dance show for the entire school on Monday.
--Religion Quiz on Wednesday.
--Poem Memory Test on Wednesday.
--No school on Thursday and Friday. Just in case you didn’t realize that!
Have a blessed Holy Week and Easter!

Dear Parents,
Only 8 school days left before spring break (which is ALSO the end of the 3rd quarter!)
Stations
If you are available on Monday, the 5th graders are leading the Stations of the Cross for the entire school on Monday at 1:00 in the church. Parents are welcome to attend—it usually lasts about 25 minutes.
A link to all the spelling unit words!
I've added a link (in red on the right side of this page and also listed below) that is connected with our spelling book. If you select the crossword puzzle, click on the “wordlist” link and all of the units with new words will be listed. It’s a great way to practice with the words AND practice ahead over the weekend if you’d like.
http://eduplace.com/kids/sv/books/gr5/Notes about Upcoming Events this week:
--5th grade led Stations of the Cross on Monday.
--Optional Parent Conferences after school on Tuesday.
--No religion quiz on Wednesday.
--MORE optional parent conferences after school on Thursday.
