We are studying the music "Scheherazade" by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov. The students followed a listening map to follow the music for "The Sea and Sinbad's Ship."
In Music Theory the students are learning Italian terms for dynamics; also we are working on rhythm: we played rhythm railroad and rhythm dice game.
Songs we are learning: "America the Beautiful," "Onomatopeia," and we just started the song "Legato, Staccato," which is a 2-part song.

The second graders are almost finished the THeory book for 2nd grade! We are working on rhythm, and ear-training: listening for intervals and rhythms.
We studied about Chopin and listened to "Military Polonaise."
Songs: "America the Beautiful," " Home on the Range," and O Susanna." We started learning the song "Take Me Out to the Ballgame and added rhythm part and chanting part! We also started learning "Little Ol' Cowboy."

We are working on space notes of the treble staff, as well as reviewing the line notes; we also started rhythm and clapping rhythms.
We studied about jazz music and Duke Wellington and listen to "King of the Magi." We also made up our own layered rhythms, 3 rhythms at one time, they enjoyed this alot!
We are also working on the song "This Land is Your Land," "America the Beautiful," and "Lewis and Clark."

The kindergartners listened to "In the Hall of Mountain," we focused on softness and crescendo, and loudness in the music. They enjoyed this very much and they followed along very well.
Songs:Clap, clap, clap and STOP, Alligator, Old MCDonald with signs language.

The fourth garders have been working very hard on their recorder songs! Make sure they are practicing to blow nice and softly into the recorder, not too hard. This makes for a better sound! Continue working on the songs! We have learned the notes BAGC. We are learning a 2-part song :"Recorder BAG."
We are studying intervals and practicing ear-training to identify the differences in the sounds of each interval(2nds, 3rds, 4ths and 5ths).
We will also start to learn about Mozart and study his opera "The Magic Flute."

We are working on playing eighth notes on the recorder. These are a little more difficult as they go faster. Have your child practice their songs slowly at first, then we can go a little faster as they become more familiar with the notes. We are starting to learn asong:"Rubber Baby Buggy Bumper Boogie."
We will continue to study rhythm with different rhythm games. We are also studying music of the Renaissance Era. We studied Josquin Desprez and the sacred motet, and Thomas Morley and madrigals. Next week we will listen to lute songs by John Dowland.
